Terrasson
-
Lavilledieu:
The
beautiful
town
of
Terrasson,
doorway
to
the
Périgord
Noir
and
to
the
Vézère
valley,
quite
deservedly
won
the
Première
fleur
award
in
the
2004
contest
of
flowered
towns
and
villages.
A
visit
to
this
ancient
town
is
always
a
joy
with
its
abundant
floral
displays,
lawned
public
gardens
with
shady
trees
and
flowers,
a
facinating
circuit
of
fountains,
the
cool
and
shady
Jardins
de
l'imaginaire
and
the
wonderful
ancient
architecture.
Plan
to
spend
at
least
a
day
here.
The
only
problem
you
will
have
will
be
in
choosing
between
the
excellent
restaurants.
For
chocoholics
the
Chocalate
Museum
(just
outside
of
the
town
on
the
road
to
Brive)
is
a
must.
The
firework
display
over
the
river
14
July
is
magnificent
and
at
night,
over
the
Christmas
season,
Terrasson
is
truly
magical.
Les
Jardins
de
l'Imaginaire
overlooking
the
Vézère
valley
in
the
heart
of
the
ancient
town
of
Terrasson
were
conceived
by
Kathryn
Gustafson.The
desire
was
to
offer
pleasure
:
the
pleasure
of
a
grand
europeen
garden
rooted
in
the
Périgord,
the
pleasure
of
discovery
in
Terrasson,
all
within
the
simplicity
of
a
beautiful
walk.
This
garden
of
themes,
very
contempory
in
its
conception,
is
symbollically
composed
of
"fragments
of
the
stories
of
gardens"
:
an
original
interpretation
of
the
universal
theme
of,
"the
gardens
of
humanity".
Your
imagination
will
be
transported
by
:
the
sacred
wood,
the
vegetable
tunnel
,
the
elementary
gardens,
the
theatre
of
greenery,
the
axis
of
winds,
the
perspectives,
the
water
garden,
the
rose
garden,
the
topiary,
the
path
of
fountains
and
the
sculptures
of
Peter
Fourakis.
You
will
follow
a
path
on
a
thematic
journey
oscillating
between
nature
and
architecture
of
impressionist
design
.
The
subtle,
almost
poetical,
integration
of
the
gardens
into
the
local
landscape
of
terraces
suspended
above
the
town
truly
represents
here
the
most
glorious
variety
of
nature.
On
more
than
6
hectares
of
terrasses,
mostly
in
cool
shade
,
Les
Jardins
de
L'Imaginaire
invite
you
into
a
world
of
tranquility
and
beauty.

The
visits
are
designed
to
cross
the
centurys
and
civilisations
to
discover
and
understand
that
man
by
the
creation
of
gardens
persues
his
quest
in
search
of
paradise
lost.
You
will
discover
an
immense
rose
garden
planted
with
2000
roses,
a
collection
of
iris,
5000
perennials,
a
spectacular
water
garden,
and
an
underwood
which
you
could
almost
believe
is
inhabited
by
elves
The
only
building
on
the
site
is
a
grand
greenhouse,
designed
by
the
British
architect
Ian
Ritchie:
winner
of
the
Stephen
Lawrence
prize
in
1999.
