Les Champagnes: B&B/Table d'hôtes between Hautefort & Montignac, DORDOGNE

Graham and Heather Sinclair offer a warm and friendly welcome to Les Champagnes.

Les Champagnes is a large traditional Perigordine house set in almost an acre of gardens, terraces and swimming pool, in a calm, relaxing environment, surrounded by fields, woods and valley views.

We offer luxurious accommodation, whether you choose our sumptuous Chambres d’hôtes or if you prefer self catering in our two bedroom Gite (sleeps 6 + baby), the quality of our service remains at the highest level, indeed, you can opt for a Table d’hôte evening meal with four courses to include aperitifs, wine, coffee and liqueurs.

The Dordogne produces many hours of sunshine, which can be lazily spent relaxing by the poolside or cooling off with a swim. We have fruit and ornamental trees throughout the gardens and traditional planting in the beds of roses and lavender, on warm sunny days you will see the lizards scampering along the terraces and hear the frogs and crickets as dusk descends. We have much wildlife around the property, so look out for magpies, woodpeckers, birds of prey, wagtails, reed buntings, chaffinches, hoopoes, butterflies, dragonflies, and red kites that soar overhead.

At Les Champagnes each chambres d’hotes is named after a Champagne for which France is well known. The rooms are large, spacious, light, and airy with good views over the valley. All rooms have tasteful decor, heating, large, comfortable beds with a seating area for relaxing, reading material, C.D player and tea/coffee making facilities.

The rooms have either en-suite facilities or private bathrooms adjacent, all newly created in 2007

A continental breakfast is inclusive. Table d'hôtes is available on request. We use our own home grown produce where possible in our meals, jams, chutneys, liqueurs and of course fresh eggs from our own hens. We also try to use the produce that this region is well known for.

ST. RABIER

The Village of St. Rabier with its church, café, restaurant and grocers for local produce, is set in a beautiful valley of the Vezere. We have tennis and basket ball courts, river fishing and walking routes all available nearby. Just 9 miles (14 km) is the picturesque town of Montignac which offers shops, a market, restaurants and canoeing on the river Vezere. For more serious shopping we are centrally placed for both Brive and Perigueux. Within 10 miles of our door is the impressive village of Hautefort with its historic Chateau , also available nearby are paintball, quad biking and golf. The variety of attractions, both locally and slightly further afield, is immense. From the prehistoric museum at Les Eyzies and cave paintings at the world famous ‘Lascaux,’ to chateaux and bastide towns with their fortified castles, such as Castelnaud and Beynac, the legacy of the Hundred Years War during the middle ages. The stunning ‘Rocamadour’ built into the cliffs on three levels with shops, cafes, the old village and church, an artists delight. The scenery has it all, from the panorama of nut groves and sunflower fields the menacing castles, valleys and the rivers ‘Dordogne’ and ‘Vezere’, all add to the tapestry of the Perigord Noir area. For the young at heart there is a mini-golf, go-karting, fishing, canoeing and biking. For the more sedate persuits, 'Le Jardin de L'imaginaire', local markets and brocantes at Terrasson, Sarlat, and the Sunday market at the very pretty St. Genies are worth a visit. Hot air balloon rides and boat trips down the Dordogne river are also available in the height of the season.

HOW TO FIND US:-

St. Rabier is within 60 miles (96 kms) of both Bergerac and Limoges airports. Bordeaux is an easy journey of under two hours. Most are good autoroute driving. A collection and return service can be provided on request. Alternatively, ferry crossings to Le Havre, Calais or St. Malo and the Channel tunnel crossing combined with a steady drive down to the Dordogne make it very accessible by car to take any ‘goodies’ home with you.

We have a large car parking area to the rear of the property.
