BIRDS EYE VIEW OF THE BARNS

Birds Eye View of the House

LA QUEYRELIE: is a tiny hamlet nestling in the side of a beautiful valley and is situated at the end of a secluded country lane. It is not even shown on some maps! The lane is a no-through road. Although not far by car from the access to the new autoroute and the N89 as well as the D704 there is absolutely no traffic noise from these roads. There is a very popular restaurant within walking distance of La Queyrelie in the neighbouring village of Le Grand Coderc. The village of Azerat (approx. 5mins. drive) is not within comfortable walking distance other than for hill walking enthusiasts. Azerat only has one bar restaurant now but it does have a grocers/ post office, a swimming pool, a shady boules pitch and a tennis court. Thenon, a small market town, is about five minutes drive from Azerat and has several very good restaurants, a good selection of shops and a Tuesday morning market. St Rabier on the D704 (6 mins drive) has a grocers, a bar and two restaurants. There are several other very good restaurants locally with menus for a five course meal from around 12 euros often with wine included. The beautiful Chateau town of Hautefort and the lake Coucou are within 15 minutes drive. Our excellent local doctor in Hautefort is English speaking.

This is the home of prehistory and the sight seeing attractions range from the interesting to the spectacular. Although the pace of life is slow a wide range of activities can be enjoyed and include: Hot-air ballooning,   Paintball   or Quad bikes  at Hautefort, golf at Brive , canoing, horse riding, tennis, donkey rides, cycle hire, and fishing, all within easy reach. There are lazy boat rides along the rivers or for the more active, the large man made lake at Brive offers a wide variety of water sports. Thenon, our local market town, now boasts an adventure forest for the energetic, with various stages of difficulty of courses. See the web pages on this site for:Terrasson a beautiful ancient town, doorway to the Périgord Noir and the Vézère valley, Montignac and the Lascaux caves and our closest large town. Perigueux , the capital of the Dordogne. Terrasson is on the border of the Corrèze where can be discovered the ancient religious city of Rocamadour, see the photo for this on the page for places of interest . Enthusiastic building restoration is a passion in this region and there is much to be admired from the lovingly restored old buildings, which seem to be found in almost every hamlet or village, to the renovated old quarters of the towns.

This area of the Dordogne is between Hautefort, in the White Pèrigord, and Montignac, in the Black Pèrigord. It is characterised by lush countryside, gently rolling hills, impressive caves and woodlands, rivers and lakes, sleepy hamlets and charming friendly people. The climate is usually excellent with long hot summers. An early warm spring and a glorious autumn can often be enjoyed by the fortunate visitor who is able to take advantage of the low season rates. Off the beaten track of the Dordogne valley tourist routes, whilst being ideally situated for touring the whole of the Dordogne and the Correze by car, La Queyrelie offers a tranquil rural retreat from which to explore the countryside on foot taking the many designated rambling trails.

Cycle hire is available locally but it is best to book in advance through us.
