Les Girouteaux, Les Eyzies Dordogne South West France
Two newly renovated very pretty holiday gites on the edge of the village of Les Eyzies. Original features, excellent facilities and beautiful views of the garden and surrounding valley. Set in a hectare of land with river frontage to the grounds and fishing rights. When rented together the gites offer 5 bedrooms. Swimming pool and children's play area. Sleeps 2 to 12.

La Maison Bleu: 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with shower and bath and a separate wc, spacious living and dining area, large secluded patio with BBQ. La Petite Maison, is an attached but independent annex with 1 bedroom, separate bathroom with shower and bath, large living and dining area, the furniture in this room includes a double bed settee. Private patio with BBQ. Outside of high/peak season the small gite is offered as an individual rental.

  

    

     

La Maison Bleu sleeps 8 - 10 people over two floors. On the first floor there are 2 large bedrooms and a smaller bedroom. The 2 large bedrooms have a double bed with a very comfortable day bed that can be used as a settee or when an additional bed is required. The smaller bedroom has a single bed. There is a large shower room with toilet. Each bedroom has duck feather duvets with mosquito netting and all the comforts associated with a home from home. Each room contains a pedestal fan for additional comfort during the hot summer. On the ground floor there is another large bedroom containing a day bed for use as a settee or when an additional bed is required. There is also a bathroom with shower and a separate toilet. The large open plan living area has a log burner and plenty of seating for everyone. There is a well equipped kitchen, including a dishwasher and washing machine, and a dining area with a large oak dining table that comfortably seats 10 adults. The French windows lead straight on to the private Patio with stunning views over the garden and countryside beyond. There is a BBQ and large patio table with parasol and chairs for alfresco eating and relaxing in the setting sun. Together with La Petite Maison this holiday rental is perfect for friends and family to spend relaxing quality time together.

La Petite Maison sleeps 2 - 3 people over 1 floor. This is a lovely independent annexe to the main house. The walls are exposed stone giving a really cool escape from the hot summer sun. There is a large double bedroom with bathroom, shower and toilet. The main living area has a well equipped kitchen, with a dining table to seat 4 people. There is a bed settee for additional sleeping arrangements and comfortable seating for 4 adults. The door leads to a private patio overlooking the enclosed courtyard with BBQ and patio table and chairs for relaxing in the evenings. Out of high/peak season this small but exquisitely appointed pied-à-terre is a fabulous romantic getaway for two people to enjoy the magnificent sites of the Dordogne in the autumn and spring.

Both the ground floor of La Maison Bleu and La Petite Maison are well suited to assist people with limited mobility.

Outside the lovely enclosed courtyard leads into the garden with mature tress and planting. The swimming pool is fully enclosed and is being newly renovated for 2010 and will have a large sun deck so you can enjoy the views over the garden and surrounding countryside. It is situated in the south facing garden and enjoys full sun throughout the day. Plenty of Sunloungers, tables, chairs and parasols are provided. The children's play area is close to the pool allowing parents to maintain a watchful eye while relaxing. There is a trampoline with safety net, a sandpit and swings. The gardens are large enough for a football or cricket match and there are small goal posts at the property if wanted. The grounds are laid mainly to grass and meadow land with mature trees so there is plenty of room for hide and seek and there are outside eating areas in sun or in shade. There is the river area and the woods to explore, and a small brook runs all the way through the gardens; we are planting Gunnera and Galia lilies to make the most of this natural benefit. At the side of the gites there are ample shady spots to park several cars. This is an ideal location for those who enjoy nature in unspoilt surroundings. You can play in the garden, read in the shade or sit under the parasols with a drink. There is a rich variety of flora and fauna - we see many different birds including eagles and there are toads, salamanders, lizards, wild deer and rabbits.

At the bottom of the gardens runs the small tributary river La Beune, this is an ideal place for a spot of fishing in peace and tranquillity (no licence is needed as this is private land) but if you wish to fish the bigger rivers such as the Dordogne or Vezere you can purchase a temporary licence from the local post office for around 35 - 40 Euros which covers a 2 week period. There is also a picnic area and chairs if required in the shade of the trees.

Les Girouteaux is situated on the edge of the village that provides all the local amenities you require such as bakery/patisserie, butcher, small supermarket, post office/cash machine, tourist office, cafes, restaurants, bars. Our village of Les Eyzies De Tayac is the one of the most famous sites for exploring prehistory. There is also access to the river Vezere where you can picnic, swim or hire canoes. There is a museum of prehistory and many facinating prehistoric sites including the Font de Gaume. Bicycle hire is available from the Tourist office and if you are a horse lover there is an excellent riding school for treks through the surrounding Dordogne countryside (all ages and abilities are catered for). All around within a short distance of Les Eyzies are the sights and cultural events that the Dordogne Valley is famous for. Sarlat the medieval market town, with its Michelin starred restaurants and cafes and famous street markets and stalls, is a 20 minute drive. Limuel a 'Beau Villages' is where the Dordogne and Vezere rivers split and is a place of outstanding beauty.
